When forgiveness feels complicated.

Guidance for forgiveness when it leads to feelings of shame, hurt, and the pressure to set boundaries you're not sure you're allowed to have.

Forgiveness doesn't mean what most people told you it means.

It doesn't mean what happened was okay, or that you have to say it was. Forgiveness and excusing are not the same thing.

It doesn't mean reconciliation. You can forgive someone and still choose not to have them in your life. Those are two separate decisions.

It doesn't mean you have to trust them again. Trust is built over time through changed behavior. Forgiveness doesn't hand it back automatically.

It doesn't mean the anger has to be gone first. You can forgive while still grieving, still hurting, still working through what it cost you.
